What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry covers any treatment designed to improve how your smile looks, while still protecting the health and function underneath it. It’s different from purely restorative work, though the two often overlap  –  a crown that repairs a broken tooth, for instance, can also be shaped and shaded to look completely natural. The right cosmetic dentist treats your whole smile as one system, so a single stained tooth or a subtle gap gets fixed in a way that matches everything around it, not in isolation.

Good cosmetic dentistry should be almost invisible as “work.” People should notice that you look great and rested and confident  –  not that you sat in a dental chair to get there.

Emergency dentistry we provide

One office can handle most urgent problems, so you don’t have to be sent elsewhere while you’re hurting.

Toothaches and infections.

We find the source, whether it's deep decay, a cracked tooth, or an abscess, and treat it. That may mean a filling, an emergency root canal, or an extraction, with medication when appropriate.

Gum problems.

Painful, swollen or bleeding gums and gum abscesses get evaluated and treated quickly.

Wisdom tooth trouble

We relieve pain and infection, then talk through longer-term options.

Lost fillings, crowns and bridges.

We'll protect the exposed tooth, then repair or replace the restoration.

Broken, chipped and cracked teeth.

Depending on the damage, we can smooth, bond, rebuild or crown the tooth. Bring any fragments you find.

Knocked-out teeth

Speed matters most here. Our goal is to see you immediately and give the tooth its best chance of survival.

Orthodontic emergencies

Broken brackets, poking wires and Invisalign issues are handled by a team that knows aligner treatment inside out.

Sports and accident injuries

Mouth injuries need a careful check even when they look minor.

Is it a dental emergency?

If you’re unsure, call us. Some problems can wait a day, but these should not:

  • Severe or throbbing toothache
  • A cracked, chipped or broken tooth
  • A knocked-out or loosened tooth
  • Swelling in the gums, face or jaw
  • A pimple-like bump on the gums (a possible abscess)
  • A lost filling or crown that leaves the tooth sensitive or sharp
  • Bleeding that doesn’t stop
  • A broken bracket or wire that is cutting your cheek or tongue
  • Pain from an infected or impacted wisdom tooth

Pain is your body’s alarm. Masking it with painkillers and waiting can let an infection spread, and what could have been a simple repair can turn into a root canal or tooth loss.

Small fix or full makeover - you decide

Not every smile needs a complete overhaul, and we’ll never suggest more treatment than you actually want. Some patients come in for one specific concern, like whitening before a big event or bonding a single chipped edge, and leave in a single visit. Others want a coordinated plan that addresses color, shape, spacing and alignment together, built out over a few appointments so the whole smile changes as one cohesive picture instead of a patchwork of separate fixes. Either path starts the same way: an honest look at what you have and what you’re hoping to change.

What to expect at your emergency visit

1. A fast, friendly response.

We prioritize urgent cases and get you in as quickly as we can.

2. Pain relief first.

Comfort comes before everything else. We numb the area and explain what we’re doing along the way.

3. Clear diagnosis.

X-rays and a focused exam show exactly what’s wrong, and Dr. Gupta walks you through it in plain language.

4. Honest options.

You’ll hear what needs to be done today, what can wait, and what each choice means for your health and budget. No pressure, no surprises.

5. A plan for what’s next.

If a follow-up is needed, such as a crown, implant or Invisalign, we map it out so a crisis becomes a step toward a healthier smile.

What to do until you reach us

Cosmetic treatment isn’t only for a red-carpet smile. Most patients start with one thing they’d quietly like to change. It may be worth a conversation if:

  • Knocked-out tooth: Hold it by the crown, never the root. Rinse gently, and if you can, place it back in the socket. If not, keep it in milk. Get to us within the hour if possible.
  • Broken tooth: Rinse with warm water, apply a cold compress and save the pieces.
  • Toothache: Rinse with warm salt water and floss gently in case food is lodged. Ibuprofen usually works better than aspirin for dental pain, if it’s safe for you. Don’t place aspirin on the gums.
  • Swelling: Use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek, and call us right away.
  • Lost crown: Keep it, and avoid chewing on that side.

Emergency dentist FAQs

How quickly can I be seen?

We prioritize emergencies and aim to see you as soon as possible, often the same day. Call first so we can prepare for your arrival.

Yes. Our emergency number, (408) 586-8822, is available 24/7. We’ll help you decide whether you need immediate care or can wait until the next available appointment.

Absolutely. New patients are welcome, and you don’t need a referral.

Pain may fade for a while, especially if the nerve has died, but the infection can continue to spread. Get it checked.

Small chips often aren’t, but sharp edges, pain, or sensitivity should be examined soon. If a large piece has broken off, call right away.

For toothaches, broken teeth, and lost restorations, a dentist is the right choice. Go to the ER for breathing difficulty, uncontrolled bleeding, facial trauma or spreading swelling.

Hurting right now? Let's fix it.

Don’t tough it out. Call Wow Dental at (408) 586-8822 (24×7) or book your emergency appointment online. Relief is closer than you think.
